Mario Giovanoli, Professor (emeritus) at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland; former General Counsel of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He spent his entire professional career at the BIS, an international organisation of central banks based in Basel, and was the General Counsel of the Bank and member of its Executive Committee until December 2005. From 1987 to 2007, he taught monetary, banking and financial law (domestic, European and international) at the Law School of the University of Lausanne. In July 1997, he lectured at The Hague Academy of International Law, and in 2007 he was Global Visiting Professor of Law at NYU. He was Chairman of MOCOMILA from 1995 to 2004. Professor Giovanoli is the author of various publications on national and international monetary and financial law.
